Respiratory Care Program Receives Donation from Boehringer Laboratories
GMercyU’s Respiratory Care Program received a generous donation from Boehringer Laboratories as a result of its recent Apex Award recognition. Boehringer Laboratories is donating ten brand new suction regulators to the program Director of Marketing Tom Harrison saw the program featured in a BucksCo Today article.
“The Apex Award is a highly regarded recognition within the respiratory care field, recognizing programs that meet stringent quality and education criteria. Gwynedd Mercy University’s Respiratory Care program is one of only 11 schools out of over 400 programs in the country to receive this award,” shared Tom. “The award signifies the program’s commitment to quality education, faculty qualifications, credential pass rates, teaching strategies, research methodologies, community service, interdisciplinary education, and simulation. All of us at Boehringer Laboratories wanted to congratulate Gwynedd Mercy University on such a fantastic achievement.”
Suction regulators are widely used in hospitals in the area, making them a great addition to the Respiratory Care Program’s simulation and training lab within the new Frances M. Maguire ’55 Healthcare Innovation Center. They are used to regulate and adjust suction pressure coming from the central vacuum system in a hospital and assist healthcare providers remove fluids, secretions, or debris from patients’ airways, surgical sites, and/or body cavities in a safe manner. The addition of this technology will allow students to gain more hands-on experience with equipment utilized in the field.
“The Respiratory Care Program faculty are thrilled to receive the generous donation of suction regulators, which will enhance the realism of our simulations and lab experience in ways that were previously not possible. With this equipment, our students can now train on the same devices they will encounter during their clinical rotations.
